"The only gifts worth giving!"

Always Wear Sunscreen

The best beauty advice I ever received was to wear sunscreen. Wherever in the world you live, you'll always need to protect your skin. That means you should, as much as possible, avoid too much direct heat exposure for prolonged periods. Try to get your 15 to 30 minutes of natural Vitamin D during the early mornings or late evenings.

Nowadays, good sunscreens not only protect you from the sun's ultraviolet rays but also provides moisture to guard against cold or harsh weather that dries out your skin.

Let's face the fact that increased environmental pollution and climate change have impacted our health and skin. Wearing sunscreen now is not just a good thing to do but an absolute necessity. Make sure that your sunscreen contains natural and environmentally friendly ingredients such as Zinc as well as least SPF30 protection for your skin.

Wear sunscreen and sunblock with SPF30 UV protection every day

beauty essentials

Beauty Bags are Essential!

We believe in the "power of the bag!" No woman should leave home without it. Even the guys need a bag! From basic hand wipes and lotion, right down to a comb and sanitary napkins for the girls, there's always going to be a need for certain beauty essentials.
Here's why we know it's important to always carry the beauty bag:
1. Being Prepared. You won't regret it until you need it. Certain beauty must-haves are like a necessary first aid kit. You never know when you're going to need it. Ever found yourself needing that napkin at the most inconvenient time? Well, thank goodness, a sister-friend had one for you. Get prepared so that you won't be embarrassed.

2. Making New Friends. If you ever found yourself on the receiving end of the example above, you'll know just how happy and grateful you are for that person who "rescued" you. Even if you don't need the items, yourself, just being able to help someone else will possibly win you a new friend at that crucial moment, plus lots of gratitude.

3. Peace and Joy. Walking with that bag of beauty supplies equates to having peace of mind. Of course, you know just how happy you feel when you have the items you need, when you need them, at hand. Your toothbrush and toothpaste in your bag, after that tuna or sardine sandwich for lunch, is just one of many examples of the basic stuff that will help keep your mind relaxed.

4. Gifting. Could there be a nicer gift? We have many different types of beauty bags, itemized with a few of the basic stuff, right down to that dream beauty bag, full of the most lovely and customized offerings that really show you care.

Hydrate Both Inside & Out

All the experts now agree that hydration is a key component to achieving and maintaining radiant skin. Without enough hydration, your skin will tend to look dull, dry and wrinkly. Use products that provide sufficient hydration in their formulas, and of course, also drink plenty of water and healthy fluids daily.

The Problems of Black Hair Types

There are 4 different natural black hair types within the black community.

Hair Types 1, 2, 3 and 4 are further broken down and differentiated within each of these groups. For example, 4a, 4b and 4c hair types are all within the category 4 hair type. The black hair types most often discussed are hair types 3 and 4.

Category 3 and 4 hair types are more widespread within the black community than the other hair types 1 and 2 which tend to be finer, straighter and thinner. You therefore find more women discussing problems with hair types 3 and 4 because the hair tends to carry more thickness, dryness, curls, waves, coils and kinks with different defined or undefined curl patterns.

Types 3 and 4 hair because of its texture, curls, thickness and density tend to require much more work to style and more nutrients to keep healthy.  Type 4 hair is especially prone to damage because of its tendency to shrink and knot, causing breakage of damage if not handled properly. The hair can sometimes shrink as much as 75% especially after washing.

Maintaining type 3 and 4 hair tends to frustrate a lot of people who don't know what to do with their hair. Due to poor education, deception and even self-hate, many girls were taught to just use harsh chemical processors and pressing combs to straighten the hair every so often. There was no thought or products developed to care for and maintain the hair's health or integrity.

Others utilize dyes, wigs, glues, weaves, braids and other 'add-on' hair pieces, with little or no regard to the effect on their own natural hair. Most often these are worn too tightly without giving the hair a chance to breathe. The damage is sometimes irreversible, especially from glues and tight hair dos or chemicals which may cause alopecia and premature balding.

Can Black Women Grow Long Healthy Hair?

We're here to bust the myth that women of colour can't grow their hair long and healthy like other races.

If we want to have healthy and strong hair, it is essential that we take care of our diet first and foremost. Your hair is what you eat. When our bodies are properly nourished then our hair will also be healthy and beautiful. If this is not the case for you then you need to figure out what's wrong.

Do you have a disease or illness internally or on your head affecting your hair? Are you on medications? Your hair is a strong health indicator. Sometimes this is how persons find out that they are not well on the inside and it gets confirmed in a professional's office.

If you are quite fine health wise and have no fungal or bacterial issues with your hair and scalp but your hair seems to be breaking, has a lot of split ends, dryness, brittleness, slow growth, thinning or falling out in bundles, then you need a hair reset!

How to Reset Your Hair for Growth:

Revitalizing your hair will take a lot of internal and external treatments, steams, masks and massages with hair vitamins, good essential oils and protein. We recommend our great tea and aloe vera treatments, hair growth oil and rice steam to help this recovery process.

In terms of food, specifically, fruits such as kiwis or oranges, vegetables like beetroot, spinach, cabbage and lentils like peas, are key to maintaining healthy hair. Also eating lots of fish, which provides magnesium, and eggs, thanks to their large amounts of vitamin B12.

It will take some time to rejuvenate your hair so be patient. Avoid stress, the unnecessary use of hair dyes, harsh chemicals, over-heating from blow dryers, irons and curlers. Be gentle with your hair and you will soon find it growing and healthy again.

Are Hair Extensions Hurting You?

Wigs, Weaves, Braids, Pin Ons, Glue ins and Lock Extensions May be Destroying your Natural Hair.

Hair extensions like wigs, weaves, braids and locks can all add style and variety to spice up your mundane look. They will however, cause damage to your hair if care is not taken to style and maintain them properly.

Make sure your style of choice is done by a professional who knows how to care for both your hair and the extension. The wig, weave or braid should not be done so tightly that your head feels uncomfortable, or that it pulls at the root of your hair. Glues should never be put directly on your hair, scalp or edges as this can lead to hair damage or alopecia.

Many people resort to hair extensions as a way to not have to deal with their own hair for a while. Contrary to popular belief, it requires even greater care to manage both the extensions as well as your own hair.

Wearing an extension does not give you a "break" from having to manage your hair at all. You will need to maintain the extension and your own hair at the same time. Failing to properly care for your own hair under the extension, wig, braid or weave for weeks and months on end may result in lots of damage to your own hair.

Even if you wear a wig, weave or braid, your hair still needs to be regularly washed, treated and moisturized to avoid the growth of funguses, developing dry scalp, dandruff, hair loss, clumping and locking of your own hair, if that's not what you want.

I've seen people remove extensions and their own hair had to be cut because it became clumped or locked and severely damaged. This means you will need to have a professional or know what to do, in order to maintain the style or extension while still keeping your own hair healthy.

Stop Hair Fall with Jamaican Black Castor Oil

Suffering from dry, breaking, thinning, lack-luster or damaged hair? We are certain that you will never find a better ally against hair loss and damage than this oil. Why? Because Jamaican Black Castor Oil is processed traditionally, cold-pressed without heat or chemicals and adulteration. It also has a richer nutritional profile than other oils, including castor oil or even other natural hair products on the market.

Jamaican Black Castor oil is a thick, dark brown or black emollient created from the roasted and crushed seeds of Jamaican Castor beans, even including some of the ashes from the roasting process.  This make it have a PH that is more alkaline while other castor oils are more acidic after processing.

The Pure Jamaican Black Castor oil is both antifungal and antibacterial and has all kinds of benefits for health, not just hair, including improving blood circulation. Its nutrient base includes Vitamin E, Omega 6 and Omega 9 Fatty Acids. All these qualities and nutrients allow the hair and scalp to quickly recover from diseases and rejuvenate for faster hair growth.

Pure thick dark Jamaican Castor oil will strengthen and moisturize your tresses and leave your hair shiny, soft, and silky. It will detangle hair and improve blood flow to the scalp while removing any fungus and bacteria that caused the damage, dandruff, itchy scalp or alopecia in the first place.

Just take a few drops of oil and massage your entire head for fifteen minutes. You may add a carrier oil like, almond oil or olive oil if the castor oil seems to be too thick. If you repeat this massage every other day, you'll see a significant improvement. You may also add Jamaican Black Castor Oil to other products to treat or steam your hair weekly and you will soon realize its great benefits.
